Locally in word it took about 3-4 seconds. Tried to open it in Word on the server and it took about 10 seconds. txt file which was 67 KB big, opens in Notepad on the server in 2-3 seconds. (Excel files are very small, usually less than 50 kb)Ĭreated a test. LANSpeedTest.exe shows 6-8 Mbps in the read/write test from the workstation to the server. (Workstation(s) have already been updated, rebooted, etc.) Tried changing to end in "%1" rather than /dde - then renaming tree - no change, reverted registry key back. Tried changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnableSuperFetch from value 3 to 0 - tried Excel file, no change, changed that attribute back Tried the EnableShellDataCaching registry entry per the below article, no change:ĭeactivated Webroot Anti-Virus on server and workstation, no change. Tried Excel in safe mode / with no addins enabled, no change. Tried opening Excel first, then opening the files from within Excel, no change. Confirmed "Let Windows Manage My Printer" is NOT checked. When opening the file, the splash screen shows it's downloading, then 'processing', then eventually opens the file.Īdded the server as a Trusted Location in Excel as a test, no change. It takes about 20-25 seconds to open a document or save it. Server resources are not even closed to being maxed out/pegged. txt file that was larger than one of the Excel files and it still opened much quicker. Opening the same office files on the local machine opens up quickly. Text (.txt.) documents don't seem to be affected. Server is on the domain, workstations are in a WORKGROUP (not sure why). Microsoft Office Documents and possibly small CAD files take a long time to open and save on the network share (Server 2012). Having a strange issue and am running out of ideas.
